Aging Population Surge: 93 Million Seniors in N.A. by 2030

Seniors Over 65 in North America by 2030 North America’s aging demographic is set to accelerate dramatically by 2030, driven primarily by the baby boomer generation reaching retirement age.

In the United States, the population aged 65 and older is projected to reach approximately 71.6 million, up 14.2% from 62.7 million in 2025, representing one in five Americans. This milestone occurs as all baby boomers—born 1946-1964—turn 65, straining healthcare, Social Security, and elder care systems.

In Canada, Statistics Canada forecasts about 9.9 million seniors over 65 by 2030, comprising 23% of the total population, fueled by longer life expectancies and low birth rates.

Mexico anticipates around 11.5 million elderly individuals, or 8.5% of its populace, per UN projections, though at a slower pace due to younger demographics.

Collectively, North America could see over 93 million seniors by 2030, highlighting urgent needs for policy reforms in pension sustainability and age-friendly infrastructure to support this “silver tsunami.”
